Two of Mahindra’s long-standing models are set to undergo a facelift this year to remain in good shape in India’s highly competitive SUV market
After launching three electric models in the space of a year – the BE 6, XEV 9S, and XEV 9e, Mahindra is planning a major product action on the ICE front this year. The company has launched the facelifted version of the XUV 700 as the XUV 7XO last night, and next, it will roll out similar comprehensive refreshes for the Thar and Scorpio N.
The facelifted Mahindra Scorpio-N is expected to be revealed by April, nearly four years after the launch of the original model. It should feature tweaked headlamps and tail lamps, redesigned grilles and bumpers, and new 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Mahindra may introduce new trim materials and a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system. The company is unlikely to roll out any mechanical changes with the facelift.
First introduced in August 2020, the second generation Mahindra Thar is a significantly more practical off-road oriented SUV that can be comfortably used as a daily driver compared to its predecessor. It was given a refresh last year with new comfort and convenience features like a sliding armrest and rear AC vents, USB Type-C ports, and a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system.

Last year’s refresh was long rumoured to be a facelift before it was announced. This year, though, Mahindra is actually planning a facelift for the latest Thar. The upcoming version will feature a redesigned front fascia with LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs and a new six-slot grille, both of which will mirror the look of the Thar Roxx.
Some media reports also speak of 19-inch alloy wheels among the exterior changes, but Mahindra could continue using 18-inch wheels, albeit in a new design, to better suit the 3-door model’s more off-road-oriented nature. Inside, the facelifted Thar could be even easier to live with and comfortable with new features like push-button start, a wireless smartphone charger, and ventilated front seats.

Mahindra will likely launch the facelifted Thar with the same 1.5- and 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engines and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine as the current model. The same goes for the SUV’s 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. Similarly, a part-time 4WD system will continue. The facelifted Thar could be launched in mid-2026.
