New Hyundai SUV (4)

Hyundai’s flagship product, the IONIQ 5, is due for a mid-life facelift update, and it is scheduled to go on sale in Q2 2026

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in the domestic market. The Creta EV, which was launched last year, received an underwhelming response from the customers, while the IONIQ 5, positioned in the premium electric segment, captures a very small set of buyers. To increase its market share in the EV segment, the company will introduce two new EVs in the country this year. In this article, we will look at the details of the 2 upcoming Hyundai EVs in India.

1. Hyundai IONIQ 5 Facelift

The IONIQ 5 was launched in the Indian market back in January 2023, and it has already received a mid-life facelift in the international markets. The updated electric SUV will feature minor cosmetic tweaks to the exterior design, including reprofiled bumpers, a new grille, and a fresh set of alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, it will feature a new steering wheel and added physical buttons.

The bigger addition in the facelift model will be the larger 84 kWh battery pack, a significant jump from the current 72.6 kWh units. The long-range 84 kWh battery pack is available with both AWD (all-wheel drive) and RWD (rear wheel drive) configurations internationally, however, the India-spec model will most likely get the RWD version with a WLTP claimed range of 570 kilometres on a single charge.

2. Hyundai Compact EV

Hyundai is working on the development of a new compact electric SUV for the Indian market. Expected to be launched in the Indian market by the end of 2026 or early 2027, the new EV will be positioned below the Creta EV, rivalling the likes of the Tata Punch EV and Mahindra XUV3XO EV.

Internally codenamed HE1i, it will be based on the Inster EV, which is Hyundai’s most affordable electric car in several international markets.  As per the reports, the upcoming compact electric SUV will be designed and engineered in India, specifically for the Indian customers. Based on the E-GMP (K) platform, the EV will be offered in two battery pack options, featuring Level 2 ADAS and an infotainment system with OTA updates.
