2026 Kia Sonet gets both a diesel automatic and a turbo petrol dual-clutch automatic at prices below Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom)
Kia India has updated the Kia Sonet for Model Year 2026 as it has expanded the availability of automatic transmissions across its range. With the latest revision, the compact SUV now offers both a diesel automatic and a turbo petrol dual-clutch automatic at prices below Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom) – making automatic ownership more attainable in the segment.
The biggest highlight is the addition of a 6-speed torque converter automatic paired with the 1.5-litre diesel engine which now starts from Rs. 9.77 lakh. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission begins from Rs. 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Courtesy of the update, the Sonet becomes one of the few SUVs in its class to offer both transmission technologies at such competitive price points.
The Korean auto major has widened the availability of the diesel automatic by offering it in multiple trims including HTE(O), HTK(O), HTK+ and HTK+(O). The turbo petrol DCT, meanwhile, is now available in HTK(O) and HTK+(O) grades. The consolidated lineup allows buyers to choose an automatic variant at different price levels without needing to step into higher trims.

The decision to increase the number of automatic options comes as urban driving conditions continue to evolve according to the brand. Congested roads and longer commute times are prompting more consumers to move away from manual gearboxes in favour of transmissions that offer greater convenience in everyday use.
The Diesel-automatic combinations in particular have been gaining attention among customers who want strong low-end torque and better highway efficiency without the effort of manual shifting. Since arriving in the Indian market in 2020, the Kia Sonet has become a major contributor to the brand’s sales performance and recently crossed the five lakh cumulative sales milestone in the country.
As part of the MY26 update, Kia India has also introduced a new Magma Red exterior paint finish. Speaking on the new launch, Atul Sood, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said: “With the model year 2026 update, we are expanding our automatic line-up with Diesel Automatic and Turbo Petrol 7DCT options at highly competitive price points, enabling more customers to experience the ease of automatic mobility while further strengthening Sonet’s leadership in the segment,”
