The facelifted Hyundai Verna just went on sale in India, and there are three more new sedans in the 10-20 lakh range coming to showrooms this year
The Indian auto market has seen a flurry of mid-size SUV launches in recent months, and while that segment will continue to see more action in the coming months, the mid-size sedan segment is also set to welcome some new models. The facelifted Hyundai Verna was launched this week, and there are three more new mid-size sedans scheduled for launch this year:
1. New Skoda Slavia
Launched in February 2022, the Skoda Slavia has been long overdue for a facelift, and that refresh is likely to come in the third quarter of this year. The facelifted Skoda Slavia will feature a new radiator grille, redesigned bumpers, new headlamp and tail lamp clusters, revised lower air intake, and new 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, Skoda will introduce new features such as a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, an updated 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Gemini-based voice assistant, and a new rear seat with a massage function for the outboard passengers. The company will also replace the 6-speed automatic transmission, which it offers as an option with the 1.0-litre TSI engine, with an 8-speed unit.

2. New Honda City
The fifth-gen Honda City arrived in India in July 2020 and ideally should have been replaced by the sixth-gen model by now, but the latter is still two years away. The fifth-gen model got a facelift in March 2023 and will get another refresh later this year to stay relevant.

On the outside, the new City is expected to have redesigned bumpers and grilles and new 16-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Honda could introduce a few features, including power-adjustable and ventilated front seats. No mechanical changes are expected with this update.

3. New VW Virtus
The VW Virtus, which was launched in June 2022, has also been due for a facelift for quite a while now. It will likely get this refresh around the end of the third quarter this year. The new VW Virtus will likely feature substantial exterior changes, possibly including even an illuminated brand logo at the front, besides a new radiator grille, redesigned bumpers, new 16-inch alloy wheels, and tweaked headlamps and tail lamps.

Inside, the VW Virtus will likely receive a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a new rear seat with a massage function for the outboard passengers. The existing 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system will be carried over, but with a new, Gemini-based voice assistant. The only main mechanical change expected with the mid-life refresh is the replacement of the 6-speed automatic transmission available optionally with the 1.0-litre TSI engine with an 8-speed unit.
