Mahindra Thar, Scorpio and XUV 700 brands will see plenty of activity as upgrades are planned over the next couple of years
Mahindra & Mahindra is doubling down on the very SUVs that helped cement its position in the Indian market. The automaker is preparing sweeping updates for its most recognisable models – the Thar, Scorpio and XUV700. Electrification forms the backbone of Mahindra’s long-term roadmap and recently it rolled out the XEV 9S – the first three-row electric SUV inspired heavily by the XUV.e8 concept.
Sitting close to the XEV 9e and BE 6 in the brand’s EV portfolio, it is no secret that the XEV 9S builds on the familiar design language of the XUV700. On the internal combustion front, the XUV700 itself is gearing up for a notable transformation. The refreshed version, to be marketed as the XUV 7XO, is scheduled for an official launch next month with bookings already underway.
While the SUV will retain its existing proportions, notable exterior tweaks are planned. The bigger story, however, lies inside, where Mahindra is developing an all-new dashboard layout dominated by a large triple-screen setup in a similar fashion to the XEV 9S. Revised cabin themes, upgraded trims and better material quality along with new feature additions will be available.

Mahindra’s lifestyle SUV, the Thar, is also being ushered into the electric age. The Vision T concept previewed an electric version of the five-door Thar Roxx – retaining the boxy proportions and upright stance while adding futuristic EV design cues. Built on the NU_IQ architecture, the upcoming Thar EV is likely to offer multiple battery pack choices along with a dual-motor configuration to enable four-wheel drive capability.
The Scorpio lineage is also in line for a major rethink. Mahindra’s Vision S concept offered a glimpse of a more premium yet compact Scorpio N – moving away from traditional ladder-frame construction. The upcoming iteration will be underpinned by the NU_IQ platform. Despite multiple test sightings, the more compact Scorpio is expected to arrive only by late 2026 or early 2027.

Meanwhile, the current Scorpio N will receive a mid-life update in the coming months with mild cosmetic enhancements and it has already been spotted during road testing.
