The demand for sedans may be shrinking, but it is still enough to push select carmakers to continue bringing updated and all-new models
Seeing the growing dominance of the SUV body style and the worsening quality of roads in India, many carmakers are shying away from any new investments in sedans. A handful of brands still remain committed to sedans, though, including Skoda, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Honda. Thanks to their loyalty, we will see four new sedans arrive in showrooms in the next two years.
Sometime in the second quarter of 2026, Skoda will likely launch the facelifted version of the Slavia. The current model is four years old and due for a mid-cycle refresh. The facelifted Slavia should feature new bumpers, tweaked headlamps and tail lamp graphics, and dynamic turning indicators (rear).
The touch-operated climate control system will likely be continued, but the rear-view camera will likely be upgraded to decent quality. Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems will improve safety. No mechanical changes are expected in the new Slavia at launch, but towards the end of 2026, the 6-speed automatic transmission will likely be replaced with a more efficient 8-speed unit.

A facelifted VW Virtus should follow a month or two after the new Skoda Slavia, packing similar cosmetic changes and new features. The new Virtus is also expected to come with carried-over engines and transmissions, and similarly, could see its 6-speed AT being replaced with an 8-speed AT a few months later. The current Virtus was introduced in March 2022 and will be over four years old by the time the new one arrives.
The Hyundai Verna will turn three years old in March next year, but Hyundai has already started working on a facelift. The company could introduce the updated model in the second quarter of next year. Spy shots suggest the polarising look with the split headlamps and angular C-pillar is there to stay.

Inside, Hyundai will offer a larger, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with customisable layouts and a larger, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, both running the new ccNC software. No mechanical changes are expected in the new Verna.
In the first half of 2027, Honda will likely launch the sixth-gen City in India. The Honda City’s design has been largely evolutionary since the third-gen model arrived in 2008. It could see a major transformation for the sixth generation, adopting an all-new futuristic design inspired by the Honda 0 Saloon.

The 2027 Honda City will be based on an all-new platform codenamed ‘PF2’ and will be available in petrol and hybrid variants. Its hybrid powertrain will be a new one, and unlike that of the current model, it will be heavily localised. An all-new digital instrument cluster, a newly developed infotainment system, a raft of new advanced driver assistance systems, and many other significant improvements are expected.
