India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is gearing up for one of its busiest product cycles in recent years with SUVs all set to be the spearhead of its product plans considering their good reception in recent years. The company knows the segment has become the deciding factor for market share and several new utility vehicles are already under development as part of its rollout over the next two years.
A new compact SUV to strengthen its ICE portfolio, a fully electric midsize model to mark its EV entry, a bigger hybrid SUV and more are said to be waiting in the pipeline. Maruti Suzuki could look to cover all corners of the SUV space and here we have explained about four upcoming ones:
1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara:
Maruti Suzuki is closing in on the debut of its first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, which is set to hit showrooms in the coming months. The model has been engineered on the brand’s Heartect e platform and will be retailed solely through the premium Nexa network. It will also spawn a Toyota sibling in the form of the Urban Cruiser BEV.

Buyers can expect two battery configurations with rapid charging capability and a claimed driving range of well over 500 km on a single charge. The SUV will also feature latest equipment including a large touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, all-digital driver’s display, Level 2 ADAS and a full suite of connected technologies.
2. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara:
Maruti Suzuki is said to be weighing the idea of stretching the Grand Vitara into a three-row SUV for India – a move that would put it in the same league as the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. If given the green light, the longer version may surface within the next couple of years – building on the positive response for the existing Grand Vitara.

3. Maruti Suzuki Micro SUV:
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing an all-new micro SUV specifically for Indian buyers with a launch window pegged around late 2026 to early 2027. The model is expected to challenge established rivals such as the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Adding to its appeal, the compact SUV may be equipped with Maruti’s forthcoming in-house hybrid powertrain.
4. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid:
Spy shots suggest that Maruti Suzuki could be preparing to equip the Fronx with an electrified powertrain. The setup is expected to be derived from the Smart Hybrid system already offered on the export-spec Dzire which could give the crossover better fuel efficiency. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is also planning to bring in flex fuel iterations of existing vehicles starting next year.
