Here are the 5 all-new models set to bring a whole new excitement to the mid-size SUV segment in India by next year
The competition in India’s hotly contested mid-size SUV segment, currently led by the Hyundai Creta, is set to get even more intense by next year. Five all-new models are set to be launched within the next twelve months, giving customers even an even wider pool of choices.
1. Maruti Escudo

Not to be confused with the global Suzuki Vitara sold in Japan, the Maruti Vitara will be an all-new model based on the same platform as the Maruti Grand Vitara. Internally known by the codename Maruti Y17, it will be positioned lower in the line-up and be sold through Arena dealerships. It is expected to be slightly longer than the Maruti Grand Vitara, as it was originally conceived as a seven-seat model and later re-engineered into a five-seater. The larger dimensions should still lead to one advantage – extra boot space.

2. Tata Sierra

The Tata Sierra is returning to showrooms after two decades, and this time around, it will be a five-door model. It will debut the company’s two brand-new petrol engines, one of which will be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit and the other a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct injection unit. Another highlight would be a passenger touchscreen, a feature the company hasn’t offered in any of its cars so far. There would be an all-electric Tata Sierra.ev as well, and Tata Motors plans to launch it before the ICE model, suggesting that the latter has been derived from the former and not the other way around.
3. Renault Duster

The Renault Duster is coming back to India in its third generation, featuring an all-new upscale design while still preserving its robust and brawny roots. Based on the CMF-B LS platform, the all-new model is expected to be offered with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines at launch. A hybrid variant is said to follow within a year of launch, which will be the brand’s first electrified offering in our market.

4. Next-gen Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos will embody the brand’s new ‘Opposites United’ design language in its second generation. The next-gen Seltos (codename: SP3i) will be approximately 100 mm longer and offer more boot space. Kia is expected to offer it with an array of new advanced technologies, such as a hands-free power tailgate, the Trinity Panoramic Display running ccNC software, and ventilated rear seats. The engine and transmission choices are likely to be the same as the current model. However, a first-ever hybrid variant could follow sometime in 2027.
5. Nissan Terrano successor

The third-gen Renault Duster will have a corporate cousin from Nissan, expected to arrive a month or two later. Local testing of this model has just commenced, and unlike its predecessor, the Terrano, it will feature a unique exterior inspired by the seventh-generation Patrol full-size SUV. Substantial visual differences are expected on the inside, too, although that’s where the distinctiveness would end. The engine line-up is likely to be the same as the all-new Renault Duster, and similarly, it should gain a hybrid variant within a year of launch.
