As many as five new ICE compact SUVs are expected to launch within the next 12-18 months and here we have brought you a rundown
Over the next 12 to 18 months, the compact SUV category is all prepared for a surge of new entries, as brands including Renault, Volkswagen, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki ready multiple new petrol models and this is a brief snapshot of these expected upcoming launches:
1. Renault Mini Duster:
Expected to arrive as soon as next year, Renault’s upcoming compact SUV for India will slot beneath the latest Duster in the brand’s lineup. Instead of following the crossover-style silhouette of the Kiger, the new model may embrace a tougher design theme influenced by its larger sibling featuring a higher bonnet line, squarer proportions, muscular wheel arches, etc. Under the hood, it could use the familiar 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor already offered in the Kiger.
2. Volkswagen Compact SUV:
Set to use a 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol motor delivering 114 bhp and 178 Nm, the VW SUV is being readied specifically for the highly competitive compact SUV segment in India. Slated for an unveiling around mid-2027, the model will share its underpinnings with the Kylaq but it is not intended to be merely a rebadged version and will instead get distinct styling cues.

3. Mahindra Thar Facelift:
The three-row version of the Mahindra Thar is expected to get a mid-cycle refresh this year judging by the test mule spotted in recent months. It will get design updates taking inspiration from the bigger Thar Roxx while the powertrain and gearbox combinations will remain the same. We do expect changes to the interior as well along with new features.
4. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Flex Fuel:
After witnessing good buyer response in the market, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx appears set to receive a notable feature expansion in India this year as equipment presently limited to certain Southeast Asian versions is expected to make its way to the local model. One of the key enhancements could be the introduction of a Level 2 ADAS suite. It could also become the first model within the brand’s portfolio to offer flex-fuel powertrain.

5. Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift:
Recently sighted multiple times during real-world testing, the updated Brezza from Maruti Suzuki looks set to arrive with new features highlighted by a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit. Exterior revisions are tipped to remain subtle barring a new design for the alloy wheels. A particularly useful enhancement is expected in the CNG variant where the fuel tank is likely to be relocated beneath the floor and a new six-speed MT could also be introduced.
