The updated versions of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Fronx are currently under development, with the launch slated for next year
Compact SUVs have become quite a popular choice amongst new car buyers, thanks to their high ground clearance, potent powertrain and feature-loaded cabin. The segment is expected to grow further in the coming years, with the launch of multiple new players, including fresh products, facelifts and new-gen models. In this article, we will look at the 6 upcoming compact SUVs in India.
1. Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift
A test mule of the Brezza was recently spied testing in India, hinting that a mid-life update is on the cards. Expected to go on sale sometime next year, the Brezza facelift will get minor cosmetic tweaks to the exterior design, along with a few changes to the interiors. As per the reports, the updated model will likely get new features, including Level 2 ADAS, which will put it on par with the rivals.

Apart from this, the CNG-powered Brezza could feature an underbody CNG tank, much like what we saw on the new Victoris. Under the hood, the compact SUV will likely continue with the familiar 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine, paired to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

2. New-Gen Tata Nexon

Tata Motors is currently working on the new-generation model of the Nexon SUV. Internally codenamed ‘Garud’, the upcoming compact SUV will continue to be underpinned by the familiar X1 platform, albeit with major structural changes. The new-gen Nexon will likely get a new exterior design, in line with the latest crop of Tata cars. Similarly, the interiors will also undergo a major overhaul with new feature additions. Talking about the powertrain, the current petrol, diesel and CNG engine options will likely continue to be a part of the package.
3. Tata Punch Facelift
The Punch is now due for a mid-life facelift update. Expected to launch early next year, the updated micro-SUV has already been spotted testing on multiple occasions, giving away a few important details. The highlight of the Punch facelift will be its new exterior design, which will be shared with the Punch EV, albeit with minor changes here and there.

Inside the cabin, it will likely feature a new steering wheel, tweaks to the dashboard layout, a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster and more. Mechanically, the Punch Facelift will remain the same with a familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood, along with the CNG fuel option.
4. Mahindra Vision S
Mahindra & Mahindra showcased four new Vision concept SUVs in August 2025. Amongst these, the Vision S will be the first model to go on sale in 2027, and it will be a part of the Scorpio nameplate. Based on the NU_IQ platform, the compact SUV has already been spotted testing in its near-production guise, sporting a boxy and upright stance, appearing quite close to the concept version.

The Vision S will likely be powered by petrol and diesel engines, with front-wheel-drive configurations as standard. It could also get all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option.

5. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid
The Fronx will be the first model to be powered by Maruti Suzuki’s in-house developed HEV Series hybrid powertrain technology. It will utilise the 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine, which will either charge a battery pack of around 1.5-2 kWh capacity, or directly drive an efficient electric motor, thereby channelling power to the wheels.

As per the reports, this hybrid setup is capable of delivering fuel efficiency of over 30 kmpl. The Fronx facelift is expected to go on sale by mid-2026, and it will likely feature minor cosmetic tweaks, along with new features like Level 2 ADAS.
6. Hyundai New Compact SUV
Hyundai has commenced the testing of a new compact SUV in India, as a fresh prototype was recently spotted in Chennai. The presence of a fuel filler cap and exhaust system confirms that it is an ICE model.

The new model could either be the Exter facelift, which is likely due for a launch next year or the much-anticipated Bayon compact crossover (Maruti Fronx rival), positioned between the Exter and Venue. While the details are scarce at the moment, the upcoming compact SUV seems to be in its near-production guise, and we can expect a market launch next year.
