This article lists the most-awaited electric cars in India by leading auto brands, which are slated to go on sale in the next 6-8 months

The EV segment in India is going to witness a lot of action in the coming few months. The leading auto brands such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Kia will introduce their new electric cars in the domestic market. While some of these electric SUVs have already been showcased to the public at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January, a few will break cover in the next few days. Hence, in this piece, we will talk about the 7 upcoming electric car launches taking place in India by 2025-26.

1. Maruti e-Vitara

The wait is getting longer and longer for Maruti’s first-ever EV for the Indian market. But, we have learnt that the e-Vitara will finally be launched during the festive season of Diwali later this year in India. Based on the Heartect-e platform, Maruti e-Vitara will be offered with battery packs of 49 kWh and 61 kWh to drive more than 500 km on a full charge. The e-SUV will get 7-airbags as standard while Level 2 ADAS tech will be available in higher variants.

2. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

It will be the Toyota’s version of the Maruti e-Vitara and hence, we can expect similar platform, features and technical specs including the battery pack, electric motor and range. It will be supplied to Toyota by Maruti Suzuki and is likely to go on sale three months after the launch of the e-Vitara. While the 49 kWh battery will be available with a FWD system, the 61 kWh battery will be offered with an AWD setup.

The EV-spec model will come with several class-leading features in the form of Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Ultra-fast DC charging, 500+ km range and life-time battery warranty. The Sierra EV will be positioned alongside the Harrier EV with pricing in the same ballpark.

4. Mahindra XEV 7e

Essentially the all-electric XUV 7OO, it has been already leaked ahead of the official launch. The first 7-seater electric SUV in India is expected to launch in the next 3-4 months with a three-row seating configuration. It will borrow the 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs from the XEV 9e while the highest range is also likely to exceed the 600 km mark on a single charge. The all-electric SUV will not feature radical styling like the XEV 9e.

5. Kia Syros EV

The Syros EV will be launched by the end of 2025 in the Indian market. It will challenge the likes of Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 4OO in the country. Though details are scarce at the moment, we believe it to be equipped with Hyundai Inster-sourced 42 kWh and 49 kWh NMC battery packs. The Syros EV will have similar design and features as the ICE version of the SUV, except for a few EV-specific changes. We expect more details to emerge in the coming months.

The global-spec model gets a 84 kWh battery pack which returns a range of 515 km on the WLTP cycle. The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 price could be around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale in the next few months.
