By 2030, Toyota intends to put 15 new or updated vehicles on sale here including the recently introduced Land Cruiser FJ
Toyota’s game plan for India has started to gain momentum and recently the brand revealed some key details. India has climbed to the brand’s No. 3 market after the United States and China and with profits at an all-time high, Toyota is preparing an aggressive product blitz with a hope to lift its market share from its current 8 per cent to around 10 per cent by the end of this decade.
A large slice of this strategy revolves around a massive expansion of its model range. By 2030, Toyota intends to put 15 new or updated vehicles on sale here. Some will be clean-sheet Toyota projects while others will continue the badge-sharing alliance with Suzuki and the rest will be overhauled versions of current models. Among the headline acts are two brand new SUVs.
One of which is the recently introduced Land Cruiser FJ based on the same platform as the Fortuner and Hilux. It will go on sale in several global markets in 2026 and initially, it will be available with a 2.7L petrol engine. We do expect it to position below the Fortuner full-size SUV as Toyota could take advantage of the already localised platform and it will apparently feature a 4WD system.

Toyota is also working on a low-cost pickup, a step down from the Hilux but appealing to the people who need a raw utilitarian with practicality in mind. Thus, it could be priced competitively but we do not know whether it will be based on the Hilux Champ sold in Thailand or not. To push this expanded lineup out in meaningful numbers, Toyota is pouring money into manufacturing.
The Bidadi complex in Karnataka is in the middle of a huge upgrade while a brand new factory is being set up in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. When both plants are fully active, the company’s annual output will cross ten lakh units. One of the India-focused SUVs will also be shipped to Africa and the Middle East from the upcoming Maharashtra facility as it will act as a global hub.

Toyota plans to open smaller showrooms and compact service bays as well as it looks to bring in more customers under its belt. On the back of record profits and rebadged models like Glanza, Rumion, Taisor and Hyryder performing well, the brand can leverage its loyal fanbase further in the premium segments with the arrival of new offerings.
