Maruti Suzuki is preparing to bring in a host of electric and hybrid offerings over the next two to three years and here we have explained them
Maruti Suzuki is lining up a range of hybrid and electric models for the Indian market to tighten its grip on the mass segment over the next few years. The company is developing multiple compact vehicles across different body styles. Interestingly, one of the first models expected to see an update is the hybridised version of the Fronx crossover.
It is said to be readied with features like ADAS and may initially use the mild-hybrid system offered overseas before transitioning to Maruti Suzuki’s internally developed hybrid setup in the future. At the entry level, Maruti is simultaneously working on a brand new small car intended to revive the previously dominant first-time buyer space.
It is rumoured to get a variety of fuel options – ranging from CNG to flex-fuel and even hybrid powertrains. Alongside this, a compact MPV is reportedly in the works. Expected to sit below the Ertiga, it could adopt the upright, space-efficient proportions seen on the Suzuki Spacia sold abroad. A strong hybrid petrol engine is believed to be on the cards.

It could take on the likes of Renault Triber and upcoming Nissan sub-4m MPV. The Indo-Japanese manufacturer is also said to be developing a micro SUV that should slot into the market by 2026 or 2027. It will be positioned as a direct challenger to the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter with hybridisation expected to be a key part in its value proposition.
For hatchback buyers wanting a more rugged-looking alternative, this could be the one to watch out for. On the EV side, work is progressing on a small electric vehicle inspired by the eWX concept. The production version is expected to retain the tall and boxy stance of the concept to increase interior space – keeping focus on practicality.

Higher up the range, the next generation Maruti Suzuki Baleno is speculated to be in the pipeline for a 2027 launch. It is set to receive a new design language, a more premium cabin and a significantly more advanced hybrid powertrain. Early leaks hint at a range-extender style system capable of delivering a fuel efficiency figure of more than 30 kmpl.
