Honda has announced plans to launch ten new cars in India by 2030. At least four of them will be imported global models
Honda’s next wave of locally manufactured cars is still one and a half years away. To build momentum by the time it is ready with the new high-volume cars, Honda will launch one or two global models. The first one will be the ZR-V, scheduled to be launched in 2026.
The ZR-V is a global compact SUV positioned between the HR-V and CR-V. India is expected to get it with a 181 hp hybrid powertrain based on a 2.0-litre petrol engine. It does 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, achieves a top speed of 173 km/h, and delivers a fuel economy of 22.1 km/l (WLTC).
Also expected in 2026 is the Honda Prelude, the company’s new sports coupe that just went on sale in Japan. It features a 2+2 seating layout, but its rear is cramped and best suited for only small children. It is powered by the same 181 hp hybrid powertrain as the ZR-V, and while it takes 8.2 seconds for a 0-100 km/h sprint, it goes much faster, topping out at 188 km/h. Its body style gives it an inherent advantage in fuel economy as well, as it returns 23.6 km/l (WLTC).

Following the ZR-V and Prelude, Honda will launch the 0 Alpha SUV in India, most likely in early 2027. The 0 Alpha will be the company’s first EV in our market and will be manufactured locally. While segment-wise it could compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti e-Vitara, in terms of pricing, it is expected to be positioned much higher than most of its rivals.
The Honda 0 Alpha is expected to be followed by the Honda 0 SUV, a model designed and engineered to compete with the Tesla Model Y. Unlike the 0 Alpha, the 0 SUV will be imported as a CBU from the U.S., and serve as a brand-building niche model in the company’s Indian line-up.

Following the 0 SUV, sometime in the first half of 2028, Honda will likely launch the locally manufactured next-gen City in petrol and hybrid variants in India. The hybrid variant will have heavy localisation this time around.
About a year later, India will likely get the next-gen Honda CR-V. Honda may import the next-gen CR-V’s CKD kits from Japan and assemble them locally, but it may need to upgrade the Tapukara (Rajasthan) plant for that. The company will likely offer this model only with a newly-developed hybrid powertrain, based on an all-new 2.0-litre petrol engine.
