The next-gen Honda City is due for a launch in 2028; Elevate is expected to get a strong hybrid powertrain in 2026
Honda Cars India is currently surviving with just three models in its portfolio, i.e. Amaze, City and Elevate. Now, the Japanese carmaker is ready for its next bout in the domestic market with the launch of 10 new models by 2030. Along with the regular ICE models, the focus will be on EVs and hybrids. In this article, we will look at the 5 upcoming Honda hybrid cars in India.
1. Honda Elevate Hybrid
Despite having a strong hybrid powertrain in its portfolio, Honda only offered the Elevate with a 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol engine at the time of its launch. As per the media reports, the strong hybrid version of the Elevate is in the pipeline and expected to debut in the second half of 2026, most probably around the festive season.

The Elevate hybrid will likely utilise the familiar 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired to two electric motors, shared with the City e:HEV. The major advantage of this strong hybrid setup will be its exceptional fuel efficiency numbers, and we expect around 26-27 kmpl in the case of Elevate.

2. Honda New 7-Seater SUV
Honda is working on a new 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. Expected to debut in 2027, the 3-row SUV will be positioned above the Elevate in the brand’s line-up. As per the reports, the upcoming 7-seater SUV will likely be the first model to be based on the brand-new PF2 platform.

The design and development of the three-row SUV is said to be handled by Honda’s Japan and Thailand-based R&D centres with major input from India. We expect the 7-seater SUV to get the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that powers the Elevate and City, along with the strong hybrid option doing duty on the City e:HEV.
3. Honda ZR-V Hybrid
The Honda ZR-V is confirmed for the Indian market, and it will be sold via the CBU route. While a definite launch timeline is not confirmed, it is expected to go on sale by 2026. Measuring 4.56 metres long with a wheelbase of 2,655 mm, the SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a dual-motor strong hybrid setup, producing a combined power output of 180 bhp.

The ZR-V also gets an AWD system and an electric CVT gearbox. Honda also offers the ZR-V with a pure petrol powertrain in select markets, however, it is unlikely to come to India.

4. Next-Gen Honda City
With the entry of new players in the mid-size sedan segment, the Honda City has somehow lost its charm, with the sales seeing a consistent decline. The current fifth-gen model debuted in 2020 and has been around for a while. The sixth-generation City is expected to arrive in 2028, likely underpinned by the brand’s new PF2 modular platform.

As per the reports, the upcoming new-gen City will take design inspiration from the 0 Series sedan. Under the hood, the familiar 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol and strong hybrid options will likely continue, however, the latter could have a high level of localisation to keep the pricing competitive.
5. Honda Prelude
The Prelude has been quite a popular nameplate for Honda globally. It was discontinued back in 2001, and now, the two-door hybrid coupe is back in a fresh avatar. The new Prelude made its global debut in September 2025, and it is expected to launch in India in the first half of 2026 via the CBU route.

Expected to be priced around Rs. 80 lakh (ex-showroom), the hybrid coupe will be sold in limited numbers. Apart from the extremely sporty design language, the highlight of the Prelude will be its 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle two-motor hybrid powertrain setup, producing a combined power output of 200 hp.
