India’s top 5 carmakers are planning to bring in a number of new SUVs to the table over the next 6-9 months and here we have listed them

The next phase of India’s EV transition is going to be dominated by SUVs with manufacturers racing to lock in both compact and midsize segments. Over the next 6 to 9 months, several zero-emission SUVs will enter the market from homegrown and global brands. Some are locally developed, others adapted from international models, but all of them are key to how brands plan to scale their electric portfolios in India.

1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara & Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV:

Maruti Suzuki’s first proper midsize electric SUV has already entered production at its Gujarat facility for overseas markets, with the Indian launch expected very soon. It will be offered with two battery pack options and a long list of features including ventilated seats and Level 2 ADAS. Not long after its arrival, Toyota will introduce its own derivative — the Urban Cruiser BEV. While both models will share core components like the battery and platform, each will carry a distinct design language to maintain clear brand separation.

2. Hyundai Compact e-SUV:

Hyundai is working on a compact electric SUV aimed specifically at Indian and emerging markets. Slotting below the Creta Electric in its lineup, this new EV could borrow design elements from the global Hyundai Inster while being heavily localised to keep costs in check. Technical details are still under wraps, but it is expected to target urban buyers looking for an affordable, high-featured electric SUV. Kia may follow the same strategy with its own compact EV based on the Syros, although official confirmation is still awaited.

3. Tata Sierra EV:

Tata Motors will first reintroduce the Sierra nameplate in ICE form in November 2025, followed by the fully electric version in early 2026. The Sierra EV is expected to share major components with the Curvv EV and Harrier EV, including battery technology and electrical architecture. It could also use the larger battery pack from the e-Harrier, positioning it as a more long-range capable lifestyle electric SUV with modern features and practical dimensions.

4. Mahindra XEV 9S:

The XEV 9S will become Mahindra’s first all-electric three-row SUV when it goes on sale. Built on the brand’s INGLO skateboard platform, it is expected with two battery pack options and a real-world range exceeding 500 km on a full charge. This model will act as Mahindra’s flagship family electric SUV, targeting buyers who want space, presence and long-distance usability without shifting to luxury brands.

5. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV:

Mahindra’s compact EV plans include the XUV 3XO EV, which has already been spotted testing multiple times. Designed to compete directly with the Tata Punch EV and select variants of the Nexon EV, it will offer a more affordable way into Mahindra’s electric ecosystem. This one is aimed squarely at urban buyers and first-time EV adopters looking for a practical daily-use SUV.

6. Mahindra BE Rall-E:

The BE Rall-E is Mahindra’s more rugged and adventure-focused electric concept that could see production form by 2026. Based on the BE platform, it is expected to feature off-road-focused styling and mechanical tweaks, making it a more lifestyle-oriented EV aimed at buyers who want toughness combined with electric power.
