Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV is brought into Indonesia as a full import and is positioned below the bZ4X

Toyota made a stronger move into Indonesia’s electric vehicle space at GJAW 2025. While most brands were busy flexing concepts, Toyota introduced two electrified SUVs – the bZ4X and the Urban Cruiser BEV – and placed them in the same aggressive price bracket. The bZ4X, now confirmed for local assembly in Indonesia by late 2025, will look to garner good volume sales.

Earlier versions imported from Japan were priced well above the one billion rupiah mark – putting them out of reach for most buyers. With local production, Toyota has brought its price down to IDR 799 million (Rs. 42.93 lakh approximately) OTR Jakarta, making it a far more realistic option in the growing EV space.

Technically, the locally assembled bZ4X is no downgrade. It carries a 73.11 kWh battery pack paired with a front-wheel drive layout. Toyota claims it can travel up to 525 km per charge. The electric motor produces around 221 hp maximum power while the peak torque is rated at 268 Nm. Sitting slightly below it is the Urban Cruiser BEV which comes in as a fully built import.

Toyota has priced it lower at IDR 759 million OTR Jakarta (Rs. 40.78 lakh approximately). The midsize e-SUV runs a smaller 61.1 kWh battery and delivers a claimed range of 426.7 km. Power output stands at 172 hp with maximum torque at 192 Nm. Both electric SUVs come equipped with Toyota’s T Intouch connectivity system.

It allows owners to track vehicle status, check key information and interact with the car remotely. However, the bZ4X goes a step further, offering additional connected features like a remote immobiliser function, real-time vehicle information and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. The Urban Cruiser BEV holds plenty of importance for India as it will become the brand’s first all-electric offering locally. It was showcased at BMGE in January 2025 in Delhi.

It is underpinned by the same Heartect e platform as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara which will go on sale next month. Both models have plenty of commonalities and they are rolled out of Suzuki’s production plant in Gujarat. We do expect the Urban Cruiser BEV to arrive in India in the first half of 2026 and it will be positioned in the competitive midsize electric SUV space.
