Indrajaal Ranger is a first-of-its-kind AI-based anti-drone patrolling vehicle based on the Toyota Hilux
Indrajaal Drone Defence, a Hyderabad-based startup, has unveiled the Indrajaal Ranger, India’s first AI-enabled anti-drone patrol vehicle based on the Toyota Hilux. The ADPV (Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle) is designed to provide additional assistance to the static counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) installations, which have some inherent limitations.
The Indrajaal Ranger is designed to counter hostile drones while being on the move, providing a dynamic response to the threat. The Ranger, based on the Toyota Hilux, will serve as a patrolling vehicle for tactical defence operations, capable of real-time detection, tracking and neutralisation of air-borne threats, at the same time tackling tough terrains.
Indrajaal promises that the Ranger is capable of providing security for long border roads, critical infrastructure corridors, as well as urban areas, offering a new layer of defence against drone attacks.

Basically, the Indrajaal Ranger is a purpose-built counter-UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system deployed on a rugged 4X4 chassis capable of taking on all kinds of terrains. While the traditional anti-drone systems are stationary (fixed at one spot), the Ranger has the advantage of patrolling, enabling a broader coverage area. In addition to this, it can also help in faster response time in case of threats, providing mobility and agility to the security forces.
The Ranger uses Indrajaal’s proprietary SkyOS autonomy engine, functioning as a unified C5ISRT (Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting) system. It integrates an AI-driven detection and command platform, which uses multi-sensor inputs like radar, RF detection, and autonomous threat assessment algorithms, capable of detecting hostile drones from up to 10 kilometres. The threats can be mitigated with a neutralisation range of around 4 kilometres.

Once a threat is detected, the Ranger starts the mitigation process, including RF-jamming, GNSS-spoofing and cyber takeover. In addition to this, it can also deploy interceptor drones to attack the target.
The highlight of the Inderjaal Ranger is the use of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck, which seems like a perfect vehicle for the job. It has a potent powertrain, a capable 4WD system and a tough ladder frame chassis, along with a large cargo bed, capable of accommodating all the necessary equipment used for the defence system.
