Production version of the Mahindra Vision S concept will go on sale in 2027, based on the NU_IQ platform
Spy shots of a heavily camouflaged Mahindra SUV have fuelled speculation about what the brand is preparing next in the compact space. Initially mistaken for a next-gen Bolero, the test mule now appears closely linked to the Vision S concept showcased recently. The squared stance, tailgate-mounted spare wheel and tight overhangs point toward a Scorpio-inspired product.
This upcoming model is expected to be one of the first vehicles based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ monocoque platform. Designed to underpin multiple future SUVs, the architecture is said to offer flexibility for different body styles, powertrains and sizes. Mahindra has already indicated that its first NU_IQ-based product will arrive around 2027 and the Vision S-derived SUV is emerging as a strong candidate.
The Vision S concept itself was revealed during Mahindra’s Freedom NU event alongside the Vision X, Vision T and Vision SXT. Unlike the more lifestyle-focused Vision T or the crossover-leaning Vision X, Vision S appeared closer to a road-going SUV meant to sit below the Scorpio N in size and price bracket.

The “S” badge has naturally triggered talk of a Scorpio connection. While Mahindra has not officially confirmed naming details, the design cues and positioning suggest this SUV could become a compact extension of the Scorpio family rather than a brand new model. Whether it wears the Scorpio name or a derivative badge remains to be seen but the lineage influence is unmistakable.
Test vehicles spotted so far reveal a cabin that sticks to practicality. Visible features include grab handles for rear passengers, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a colour MID and a large panoramic sunroof. From a development standpoint, the frequency of sightings indicates the project is well into advanced testing. The prototype’s proportions, detailing and component fit hint that Mahindra is moving beyond early experimentation and into validation phases.

Looking further ahead, Mahindra has already stated that electrification is being explored even for its long-standing nameplates. While it’s too early to confirm an electric version of this compact Scorpio-style SUV, the option remains on the table.
