Japanese automaker planning a major new product offensive amid renewed efforts to strengthen presence in India’s 4-million-plus and growing car market
Honda may not have taken the Indian market very seriously in recent years, but it has a new India strategy in place and is set to roll out a barrage of new models in the coming years. In the next two years alone, we will see six new Honda models coming to Indian showrooms.
In the first half of next year, Honda will launch the Prelude, its new sports coupe that internationally serves as the two-door alternative to the eleventh-generation Civic. It will be more of a laid-back comfort-focused model that looks sporty than a proper performance and driving dynamics-focused sports car like the Nissan Z, the successor to the Nissan 370Z that was once sold in India.
Combining a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated direct injection petrol engine and an electric motor, the Honda Prelude accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds and flat out goes up to 188 km/h. It will be imported as a CBU from Japan, where it delivers a WLTC fuel economy of 23.6 km/l.

In the second half of 2026, Honda will roll out a second facelift for the City and the first facelift for the Elevate. Both new City and new Elevate should feature minor cosmetic changes such as newly designed grilles, bumpers, and wheels, fresh colour and upholstery options, improved infotainment systems, and a few new comfort and convenience features.
At the end of 2026, Honda will likely launch the ZR-V, its new rival to the VW Tiguan globally. The company plans to offer the new C-segment SUV with the same hybrid system as the Prelude. The ZR-V Hybrid hits 0 to 100 km/h quicker, in as little as 7.8 seconds, but it has a much lower top speed – 173 km/h. Being bulkier and less aerodynamic, it returns a lower WLTC fuel economy of 22.1 km/l. Honda will import the ZR-V also as a CBU from Japan.

In early 2027, Honda will launch its first EV in India – the 0 Alpha (officially stylised as ‘0 α’). Set to compete with the Mahindra BE 6, the Honda 0 Alpha will be manufactured locally but feature CATL-made LFP batteries sourced from Indonesia. The Honda 0 Alpha will embody the same futuristic design language as the Honda 0 SUV, the Japanese automaker’s global D-segment electric SUV.
The Honda 0 SUV has also received the green signal for Indian launch. Honda is likely to bring the 0 SUV to our market as a brand-building niche CBU import at the end of 2027. The company plans to manufacture it exclusively at its factory in Marysville (Ohio), USA.
