The upcoming electric MPV will be Maruti’s second EV after the launch of the e Vitara next month in India
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is ready to launch the much-awaited e Vitara next month. The electric SUV will be the brand’s first EV offering in the Indian market. Following this, the homegrown carmaker is also working on a new all-electric MPV, which is expected to debut in late 2026. Internally codenamed YMC, it will be the brand’s second EV model in the country.
It will likely share some major powertrain components with the e Vitara. As per the reports, the electric MPV will be underpinned by a derivative of the 27PL skateboard architecture which underpins the e Vitara. This born EV platform has been jointly developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota – capable of accommodating multiple body styles.
While the powertrain details of the upcoming YMC electric MPV are not available yet, we expect it to share the 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options with the soon-to-be-launched e Vitara. For reference, the larger 61 kWh battery pack comes with an ARAI claimed range of 543 kilometres on a single charge.

In addition to this, the electric MPV will come with a front-wheel drive configuration, and the electric motor could also be borrowed from the e Vitara. This will help the brand to capitalise on the economies of scale, thereby bringing down overall production costs.
If media reports are something to go by, the Maruti Suzuki YMC EV will go on sale by September 2026. However, we haven’t spotted any test mule of the electric MPV yet, indicating that the testing phase has not commenced yet.

Once launched, the YMC MPV will go up against the likes of the Kia Carens Clavis EV. It will be the brand’s fifth MPV model, considering that the Suzuki Spacia-based hybrid compact MPV would be launched by that time. It is also important to note that Maruti Suzuki is a leading player in the MPV segment with the high-selling Ertiga, which is a popular model in the commercial fleet segment.
With the YMC electric MPV, the company is most likely looking to cater to the premium end of the segment, considering that the majority of its current MPV sales goes into commercial usage. Once launched, the YMC will sit above the existing Ertiga and XL6 in terms of pricing, and we expect it to sport a modern design, along with a premium and tech-loaded cabin.
