Kia’s maiden attempt at mass-market EVs in India set to open a new segment of family vehicles in the country this month

The Kia Carens Clavis EV is just a week away from launch but many of its key details, including exterior, interior, features, and specifications, have already been revealed. Here are the top five things you need to know about the upcoming electric MPV.

1. Design

Kia Clavis EV3

The Kia Carens Clavis EV will look nearly identical to the recently launched Kia Carens Clavis. The electric variant will only have minor differences such as a modified front grille, front fog lamps, and geometric-style wheels. A revised front mask will integrate the EV’s charging port in the centre.

2. Interior

Kia Clavis EV1

The interior of the Kia Carens Clavis EV would look even more similar to its ICE donor, featuring a similar sleek dashboard, a dual panoramic display panel, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a two-tone colour scheme. The only major difference here would be a more elegantly designed centre console that offers more storage space. Rumour has it Kia will offer the Carens Clavis EV only in a seven-seat version.

3. Range and battery pack

Kia has confirmed that it will launch the Carens Clavis EV with a 51.4 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 490 km. The company may also offer a 42 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of around 390 km to keep the entry price low. The long-range variant should have a 169 hp motor and the standard-range variant a 133 hp motor, powering the front wheels in both cases. Both variants will likely offer V2L bi-directional charging.

5. Competition

Kia Carens Clavis EV

The Kia Carens Clavis EV will be the first locally manufactured electric MPV in India. It won’t have any direct competition as such. The only model that comes any close at the moment is the BYD eMax 7, which is available in six- and seven-seat versions and priced from 26.90 lakh rupees (ex-showroom). However, Mahindra is expected to launch the XEV 7e seven-seat electric SUV at a much lower price within a year.
