JSW MG Motor held on to its position as the second-largest EV seller for the month – posting 4,606 units. However, growth remained muted at 2 per cent year-on-year. Hyundai’s EV volumes dipped marginally to 326 unit, while BYD and Mercedes-Benz also posted declines in the first month of the new calendar year.
Luxury and niche manufacturers showed different trends. BMW India recorded a healthy 61 per cent growth with 312 EVs sold while Kia witnessed a massive 500 per cent jump to 306 units but with low volume sales. New entrants such as VinFast and Tesla made their presence felt with initial deliveries but they have a lot to catch up in the premium EV segment.
