The locally assembled Volkswagen Tayron is available in a fully-loaded R-Line trim and is powered by a 2.0L turbo petrol engine with an AWD system as standard
Volkswagen has kicked off 2026 on an aggressive note in India with the opening of pre-bookings for the all-new Tayron R-Line. Scheduled to be officially launched in February 2026, the premium 7-seater SUV can now be reserved for a token amount of Rs. 51,000 via authorised Volkswagen dealerships across the country as well as the brand’s official digital platforms.
The spacious and feature-packed, performance-oriented family SUV is being locally assembled in India which should help Volkswagen position it competitively as we expect a starting price of around Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will compete with Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian and the upcoming MG Majestor.
In terms of design, the Tayron R-Line makes a lasting first impression with the presence of IQ Lights with HD Matrix LED headlamps, a segment-first, along with sporty R-Line design elements on the bumpers and front doors. Riding on 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, the SUV also gets illuminated front and rear Volkswagen logos.

Step inside the cabin, the Tayron R-Line offers a panoramic sunroof, ergonomic seating and a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system – another segment-first feature. Complementing this is a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, augmented reality head-up display and 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory, ventilation, massage and lumbar support. Ambient lighting with 30 colour options is another highlight.
Modern safety features and driver assistance are major inclusions to the Tayron R-Line’s lineup. It comes equipped with nine airbags, electronic stability control, hill ascent and descent control and Level 2 ADAS with 14 advanced driver-assist features. Multiple driver profile modes allow users to tailor the SUV based on their driving requirements.

Powering the SUV is Volkswagen’s 2.0-litre TSI EA888 evo4 petrol engine producing 204 PS maximum power and 320 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the Tayron R-Line can sprint from 0–100 kmph in just 7.3 seconds and achieve an electronically limited top speed of 224 kmph.
Buyers will be able to choose from seven exterior colour options such as Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl Effect and Nightshade Blue Metallic. Speaking on the new announcement, Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said, “We as India’s most loved, aspired for German car brand are all set to introduce one of the most versatile, advanced and fun-to-drive luxury SUVs for our customers, to cater to all their lifestyle goals. With the premium 7-seater SUV market consisting of discerning buyers, it is crucial to have a product that offers both functionality along with style and substance.”
