Combined PV and EV wholesales of Tata stood at 1.71 lakh units during the quarter with a massive 22 per cent year-on-year increase

Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle and electric vehicle division registered its best ever quarterly performance in Q3 FY26 courtesy of higher volume sales, demand created by GST 2.0 tax relaxation and good reception for its popular models. Combined PV and EV wholesales stood at 1.71 lakh units during the quarter with a massive 22 per cent year-on-year increase.

Revenues for the quarter increased steeply to Rs. 15,300 crore – up 24 per cent YoY. However, profitability held up under strain due to higher fixed costs, commodity headwinds and lower realisations. On a year-to-date basis, Tata Motors PV and EV business reported revenues of Rs. 39,700 crore leading to a growth of 10.6 per cent. The domestic PV and EV business generated positive free cash flow of Rs. 300 crore in Q3 FY26. The company ended the quarter with a cash balance of Rs. 8,900 crore against gross debt of Rs. 3,800 crore with a net cash position of Rs. 5,100 crore.

From a market standpoint, Tata Motors strengthened its position in the domestic passenger vehicle space. Vahan-based market share rose to 13.8 per cent in Q3 FY26 – up 100 basis points quarter-on-quarter as it secured the second position overall. In the EV segment, Tata continued to dominate with a market share of 43.6 per cent – supported by the highest-ever quarterly EV registrations.

Alternative powertrains remained a key growth supporter too as the EV penetration reached 14 per cent during the quarter while CNG models accounted for 28 per cent of volumes. The quarter also saw a flurry of product actions. Tata launched the all-new Sierra which received over 70,000 confirmed bookings on the first day itself and it commands a waiting period of up to 4 months.

The portfolios of the Harrier and Safari were expanded to include petrol variants powered by the new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo GDi engine. The refreshed Punch was also introduced with updates inside and out while the company re-entered the fleet segment with petrol and twin-cylinder CNG versions of the Xpres based on the Tigor compact sedan.

Going ahead, Tata Motors expects growth to accelerate with new launches as the facelifted Punch EV, Sierra EV and Avinya are waiting in the pipeline.
