Tata Motors was India’s second highest-selling car brand in January 2026; the company is seeing strong demand for the Nexon as well as the Punch
With 70,222 cars sold, Tata Motors recorded a 46% year-on-year growth in January 2026. For reference, the company had delivered 48,075 cars in the same month last year. The Tata Nexon, which was India’s highest-selling car in 2025, with 2,00,561 units delivered, contributed 23,365 units to the company’s sales in January 2026.
Compared to 15,397 units sold in January 2025, this marked an impressive 52% growth. The Tata Punch, which received a facelift last month, saw a 19% year-on-year growth, going up from 16,231 units in January 2025 to 19,257 units.
The Tata Tiago, the most affordable model in the Tata Motors line-up, registered 8,349 units in January 2026 sales. Compared to January 2025 (6,807 units), the city car’s sales grew by 23%. As for the Tata Altroz, Tata Motors sold 3,135 units of the premium hatchback last month. Compared to the same month in 2025 (2,033 units), it recorded a 54% growth in sales of the Hyundai i20 rival.

The sales performance of the Tata Curvv, the SUV-coupe derived from the Tata Nexon, has deteriorated from bad to worse. This model saw the sharpest decline in sales in the line-up – 46%, falling from 3,087 units to 1,666 units. The Tata Tigor, the Tata Tiago’s sedan version, continued being a low-volume model and saw a year-over-year decline of 8%. Its sales went down from an already low 1,484 units to 1,361 units.
The all-new Tata Sierra went on sale last month, and it is off to a strong start. Tata Motors delivered 7,003 units of its new Hyundai Creta rival in the first month of sales. The Tata Harrier contributed 3,711 units to the brand’s January 2026 sales. Compared to January 2025 (1,488 units), the C-SUV recorded a 149% growth in sales.

The Tata Safari also saw a positive momentum in January 2026. Tata Motors delivered 2,375 units of its flagship SUV in sales last month, which marked a year-on-year growth of 53%. Like the Tata Harrier, the Tata Safari is also available in petrol now.
