Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella has been made available with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs and is built on the Heartect-e architecture

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is pumped up to expand its product range in India with the launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella – an all-new battery-powered SUV that has already opened for bookings. While official pricing is expected to start around Rs. 17 lakh (ex-showroom), the company has confirmed that the top-spec version delivers a certified driving range of 543 kilometres on a single charge as per ARAI testing standards.

The Ebella is offered with two battery choices built using lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The standard variant features a 49 kWh battery pack paired with a front-wheel-drive electric motor generating 142 bhp. Customers opting for the larger 61 kWh unit get a more powerful motor producing 171.5 bhp and up to 189 Nm of torque. The extended range version supports both conventional AC charging and CCS2-compatible DC fast charging solutions.

This electric SUV is constructed on the Heartect-e architecture – a purpose-built EV platform developed in collaboration with Suzuki. The scalable structure enables integration of shared electronic modules and battery systems. Manufacturing duties for the Indian market are assigned to Suzuki Motor Corp’s plant in Gujarat where the e Vitara is also rolled out.

On the exterior, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella gets a sharp and modern design language. The front section features a sleek lighting signature and a bold grille treatment while the side profile is defined by pronounced wheel arches and 18-inch alloy wheels. Dual-tone paint options and an upright stance give it a SUV character but its similarities with the e Vitara are more than apparent.

The cabin is equipped with a twin-screen setup consisting of a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen compatible with wireless smartphone connectivity. Depending on the trim, buyers can also access ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, ambient interior lighting, a premium JBL audio system, wireless charging and flexible rear seating with slide and recline functions.

Seven airbags, electronic stability aids and a reinforced body shell come as standard and the model will be available in an expansive range. The range-topping E3 grade further enhances protection with advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, lane support systems, blind spot alerts, rear cross-traffic monitoring and a surround-view camera.

To support ownership, Toyota has announced an eight-year warranty on the battery pack along with flexible Battery-as-a-Service plans and a guaranteed buyback programme. Over 500 dealerships nationwide have been prepared for electric vehicle servicing with more than 2,500 trained personnel ready to manage EV-specific requirements.
