As many as eight new hybrid cars are coming to the Indian market by next year, most of which will be manufactured locally
Along with electric cars, hybrid models are increasingly becoming popular in India. Limited charging infrastructure and frequent use across long distance and in remote locations among various other reasons make electric cars still far less appealing than hybrid models for many customers. Here are eight upcoming hybrid cars, all expected to be launched in the next 12-18 months:
1. Honda Prelude
The Honda Prelude is a compact two-door sports coupe that combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 104 kW (139 hp) and 182 Nm of torque with an electric motor that develops 135 kW (181 hp) and 315 Nm of torque. This setup gives the car a fuel economy of up to 23.6 km/l, as per WLTC. This model will be imported as a CBU from Japan and likely be launched in Q2 2026.

2. Renault Duster Hybrid
The Renault Duster Hybrid employs a 1.8-litre petrol engine producing 80 kW (107 hp) and 172 Nm of torque, and an electric motor. Renault claims the hybrid system can cut fuel consumption by up to 40%. The company will likely launch it in Q4 2026.
3. Honda ZR-V Hybrid
The Honda ZR-V Hybrid is a new global C-SUV positioned below the Honda CR-V Hybrid, featuring the same powertrain as the Honda Prelude. It offers a fuel economy of up to 22 km/l, as per WLTC. Like the Prelude, Honda will import the ZR-V as a CBU, and it could launch this model in Q4 2026.
4. Kia MQ4i
MQ4i is a codename for Kia’s upcoming three-row SUV derived from the fourth-gen Sorento. Kia plans to equip it with a new hybrid system based on its locally manufactured 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The company will manufacture this model in India and likely launch it in Q1 2027.

5. Nissan Tekton Hybrid
The Nissan Tekton Hybrid will be a corporate cousin of the Renault Duster Hybrid, based on the same CMF-B LS platform and featuring the same 1.8-litre petrol engine-based hybrid system. It will likely go on sale in early 2027.
6. Kia Seltos Hybrid
The Kia Seltos Hybrid will also feature a hybridised version of the company’s locally manufactured 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, already seen in the ICE variant, along with an electric motor. Kia will likely launch the Seltos Hybrid in Q2 2027.
7. Hyundai Creta Hybrid
The first-ever Hyundai Creta Hybrid will likely come with the same powertrain as the Kia Seltos Hybrid. It will be a derivative of the third-generation Hyundai Creta (codename: SX3i), which could be launched in mid-2027.
8. Maruti Fronx Hybrid
The Maruti Fronx will likely get a facelift in 2027, and along with this mid-cycle update, it should receive a new series-hybrid system based on the Z12E 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine. The engine will only serve as a generator, meaning the car will run in EV mode at all times. The Maruti Fronx Hybrid will be among India’s most fuel-efficient cars, delivering a fuel economy of around 35 km/l.
