In Feb 2026, Tata Nexon sat on top of the sales charts ahead of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Punch, Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Brezza
As expected, the month of February 2026 saw persistent dominance of SUVs and compact cars in India with Tata Motors once again making a statement at the top. The Tata Nexon retained its position as the country’s best-selling car – registering 19,430 units and continuing its impressive streak at the summit.
Besides leading overall passenger vehicle sales, it has also firmly established itself as the highest-selling SUV in the industry. Just behind in the second position within the SUV space was the Tata Punch which recorded 18,748 units in February. Together, the Nexon and Punch have consistently remained the top two SUVs in the domestic market.
Recently, the Punch micro SUV received a mid-cycle update with exterior and interior enhancements. Splitting the Tata duo in overall rankings was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which posted 19,326 units. The compact sedan continues to enjoy good traction among fleet operators and private customers.

The Hyundai Creta maintained its steady performance with 17,938 units as its stronghold in the midsize SUV segment for years has been more than evident. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza followed in the fifth position with a domestic tally of 17,863 units while the Ertiga MPV delivered 17,807 units in the second month of the new calendar year.
In the hatchback category, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Swift stayed put as key volume grabbers last month. The Wagon R tall riding hatch registered 14,885 units which placed it marginally ahead of the Swift compact model at 14,833 units in the seventh position. The Mahindra Scorpio recorded 14,665 units – sustaining demand for SUVs with a superior road presence and being a utilitarian especially the Scorpio Classic.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno rounded out the top 10 with 14,632 units – maintaining its popularity in the premium hatchback space over Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza and Tata Altroz.
