Three companies, including JSW MG Motor, Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), likely to bring new authentic SUVs to the Indian market by early 2027
While the Indian auto market now leans heavily towards road-focused monocoque SUVs, a loyal fanbase still exists for off-road-oriented SUVs with a body-on-frame construction. Four such new proper 4×4 SUVs will be launched in India within a year.
1. MG Majestor
The MG Majestor is the facelifted version of the MG Gloster. The new model has a noticeably more rugged exterior and can be easily recognised by its split headlamps and more aggressive front grille. It boasts best-in-class 810 mm of water wading depth, three differential locks, and a crawl control function, as well as massage front seats and Level 2 ADAS.

The Majestor will be available with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine producing 212 hp and 478.5 Nm of torque and an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 4WD system will be optional.

2. New Mahindra Scorpio-N
The Mahindra Scorpio-N is likely to undergo a facelift by April. The facelifted Scorpio-N will likely feature revised headlamps and tail lamps, a new radiator grille, and new 18-inch alloy wheels. Its interior may also have some changes, such as a larger, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a new colour scheme.

No changes are expected with respect to the engines or transmissions. Like on the current Scorpio-N, a 4WD system will be available as an option.
3. New Mahindra Thar
Mahindra is working on a facelift for the Thar as well, and it is likely to introduce this update sometime in the third quarter of the year. The facelifted Thar’s highlight will be a new front fascia similar to the Thar Roxx, featuring the same new six-slot grille and LED headlamps with C-shaped DRLs.

The updated Thar should offer more comfort and convenience as well, with new features such as ventilated front seats, passive keyless entry, and a wireless smartphone charger. No mechanical changes are expected in the Thar either, and a 4WD system should remain optional.

4. Next-gen Toyota Fortuner
The Toyota Fortuner will enter its third generation later this year, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) could launch the all-new version sometime in Q4 2026 or Q1 2027. The next-gen Fortuner will likely have a sharper and more muscular exterior and a more upmarket interior, both heavily drawn from the latest Hilux sold overseas.

The 2027 Fortuner will likely pack a host of feature upgrades, including electric power steering, ventilated seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and seven airbags. It will likely be powered by the same 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine as the current model, paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission. Similarly, a 4WD system will likely be optional.
