First new Toyota this year likely to hit Indian showrooms as early as the end of this month, following by two more models in the second half
Toyota is not one of those car brands known for aggressive product action in India, but 2026 might be an exception. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), the company’s local joint venture, is likely to launch three new SUVs in our market this year.
1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella – March 2026 (expected)
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella will be the Japanese automaker’s first pure electric model in our market. Much like most of its high-volume models in our markets, this one will be a corporate cousin of a Maruti Suzuki model – the e Vitara.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is differentiated mainly by a more Euro-style, elegantly designed front-end. Its sleek headlamps and nose section, much like on many recent global Toyotas, draw inspiration from a hammerhead shark. The 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels are also unique to the Urban Cruiser Ebella, while the tail lamps feature distinctive graphics.
TKM will launch the Urban Cruiser Ebella in two single-motor FWD variants, one with a range of 440 kilometres and one with a range of 543 kilometres. The company will likely price it somewhere in the range of 16-20.25 lakh rupees (ex-showroom).

2. New gen Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder – Q3 2026 (expected)
With the competition having significantly intensified in the mid-size SUV segment, TKM is working on a major update for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which it launched in September 2022. On the outside, the new gen Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder could feature new bumpers, new 17-inch alloy wheels, tweaked headlamps and tail lamps.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder could gain new features such as a kick-activated powered tailgate, power front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and several Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems. No mechanical changes are expected in the new gen Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

3. Next-gen Toyota Fortuner – Q4 2026 (expected)
Toyota has started development and road testing of the third-generation Fortuner in Thailand and is expected to unveil it later this year. Like the first- and second-gen models, the third-gen model would be a body-on-frame vehicle based on the IMV platform.
The next-gen Fortuner would have a sharper and more sophisticated exterior and a more upmarket interior. A new, electric power steering would make driving easier and also enable a range of advanced driver assistance systems under the Toyota Safety Sense 3 (TSS 3) suite, significantly improving safety and convenience.

A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and seven airbags are also expected to be among the new features. TKM will likely bring the Fortuner via CKD kits from Thailand and offer it with the 1GD-FTV turbo 2.8-litre diesel engine that produces 150 kW (201 hp) and up to 500 Nm of torque.
