French and Japanese alliance brands planning a major new product offensive for India, amid a renewed focus on the market to unlock new growth
Renault and Nissan are doubling down on efforts to strengthen their presence in India. Leveraging their strategic alliance globally, the two companies will launch no less than five new SUVs in our market by 2028.
1. All-new Renault Duster

Renault has developed an India-specific third-generation Duster that looks more aggressive than the global model and is far better equipped in terms of comfort, convenience, and connectivity features. The company will launch it with petrol engine options on 21 March, followed by a hybrid variant towards the end of the year.

2. Nissan Tekton

The Nissan Tekton will be a corporate cousin of the all-new Renault Duster, but with an identity of its own. It will feature a sharper and bolder exterior, one that places less emphasis on off-road styling and opts for a more refined road presence. It could be unveiled later this month and launched at the end of April. As in the case of the Renault model, a hybrid variant should follow within a year.
3. Renault three-row SUV

At the end of 2026, Renault will introduce a new three-row SUV that will essentially be a derivative of the all-new Duster but be designed distinctively and marketed as a separate product. We expect it to feature a relatively more elegant design and include more features, such as ventilated second-row seats and a three-zone automatic climate control system. Renault may launch the three-row SUV in six- and seven-seat versions, with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a hybridised 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

4. Nissan three-row SUV

Sometime in the first quarter of 2026, Nissan will likely launch a similar three-row SUV but with a differently designed exterior and a few distinctive touches on the inside. The company may offer it with the same set of features, which should include a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a three-zone automatic climate control system, ventilated second-row seats, a 360º camera system, and a powered tailgate. Customers may get a choice of six- and seven-seat layouts, in petrol and petrol-electric hybrid variants.
5. Renault Bridger
The Renault Bridger will be the company’s sub-4 metre SUV that will compete with the Mahindra Vision S concept’s production version arriving next year, as well as the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza. It will feature a boxy body with a near upright front and rear fascias, raised roof rails, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel for an authentic SUV character. Besides this proper SUV design, a high ground clearance would set it apart from most of its rivals.

Renault will likely offer the Bridger with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 99 hp and 160 Nm of torque, along with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional CVT. The company is likely to launch it in early 2028.
