New VW Taigun now being tested with bare-minimum disguise, ahead of a potential debut in April and sales launch in May

The facelifted VW Taigun has been leaked in a spy video ahead of a potential official reveal next month. The new Taigun packs some major design changes, much greater than those seen on Skoda’s new Kushaq. The current VW Taigun, originally introduced as the VW T-Cross internationally in 2018, was inspired by the pre-facelift second-gen VW Tiguan.

The T-Cross was given a facelift to align with the facelifted version of the second-gen Tiguan. The Tiguan transitioned into its third generation in 2023, and the facelifted Taigun borrows cues from this latest version. Interestingly, its front-end appears to be identical to the VW Tharu XR, which the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture introduced in China in 2024.

The facelifted Taigun features sleeker and more aggressive headlamps, and the grille between them is noticeably more compact. Light guides along the upper edge of the latter meet the VW logo in the middle, which, unlike in the current Taigun, features backlighting.

The downsized upper grille means there’s more body area in the upper part of the front bumper. In the lower half, the large air intake grille features a completely new design, one that gives the vehicle a broad and powerful look. Needless to say, the front bumper is completely new.

The rear-end looks unique to the new Taigun, featuring tweaked connected tail lamps and a new bumper with vertical reflectors and a wider faux skid plate. Volkswagen will likely offer new 17-inch alloy wheel designs also on the facelifted Taigun.

Inside, the new VW Taigun should feature a redesigned dashboard with new central AC vents, a new, fully digital instrument cluster measuring 10.25 inches diagonally, and an updated, floating 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. A new rear seat with a massage function for the outboard passengers would improve comfort and make long journeys less tiring.

Volkswagen will continue offering the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI Evo engines in the Taigun post facelift. However, it will replace the 6-speed automatic transmission, which it offers as an option with the 1.0-litre TSI engine, with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The company will likely commence sales of the new Taigun in May.
