Tata Sierra EV will reach showrooms during the opening quarter of FY27; could get a dual motor AWD setup
The upcoming Sierra EV is gearing up for its official market debut in India with Tata Motors confirming that the electric SUV will reach showrooms during the opening quarter of FY27 – placing its launch timeline between April and June 2026. The model has already been spotted undergoing extensive road testing across the country indicating that development is in its final stages ahead of production.
Positioned higher in the brand’s electric portfolio, the Sierra EV will sit above the Tata Curvv EV in terms of pricing. The five-seater is expected to target customers looking for a midsize electric SUV with commendable road presence, a premium cabin and long driving range. Tata may offer the Sierra EV with both single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.
Underneath, the SUV will be built on Tata’s dedicated Acti.ev+ architecture. The skateboard-style EV platform is designed to support multiple battery configurations and drivetrain layouts across forthcoming electric vehicles from the brand. The Sierra EV is also expected to share several key components with the Tata Harrier EV.
Battery options could include a 55 kWh unit similar to the pack used in the Curvv EV along with a larger 65 kWh battery sourced from the Harrier EV. With the bigger battery pack, the Sierra EV could deliver a real-world driving range of more than 500 km on a single charge. Fast charging capability is expected to be part of the package along with advanced functions such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and bidirectional charging.
From a design perspective, the new Sierra EV draws inspiration from the original Tata Sierra while incorporating modern electric vehicle styling cues. The front fascia is expected to feature a closed-off grille area with a full-width LED daytime running light signature and split headlamp setup. Other highlights may include newly designed alloy wheels, flush door handles, muscular wheel arches and a connected LED light bar at the rear.
On the inside, Tata is preparing a tech-loaded interior centred around a three-screen layout. The arrangement includes a fully digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment display and a separate passenger-side screen. The SUV will also likely feature premium materials, enhanced connectivity and safety features.
Even the lower trims are projected to come well equipped while the higher variants could introduce Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera system, powered front seats, ambient lighting, connected car technology and dual-zone automatic climate control. The Sierra EV will also play an important role in strengthening Tata’s growing EV lineup and its starting price could hover around Rs. 18.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company recently introduced the updated Tata Punch EV and the first production model from the Tata Avinya family is also expected to arrive next FY.
