The seven-seater version of the new Renault Duster will go on sale next FY in India and both will likely share engine options as well
A camouflaged three-row SUV from Renault has been spotted undergoing road tests in India pointing towards the arrival of the brand’s upcoming seven-seater SUV scheduled for launch next financial year. The prototype appears to be closely related to the international-spec Dacia Bigster which is positioned as a larger and more practical sibling.
Renault had already confirmed that a three-row SUV based on the new Duster platform would be introduced in India. The heavily camouflaged test mule gives the first indication that development work is progressing. Even though most of the bodywork is concealed, the lighting signatures and overall proportions suggest the vehicle is derived from the Bigster.
However, the final name for the Indian market remains unclear. Globally, the Bigster has also led to the development of the Boreal, a Renault-badged version sold in select regions. Because of this, the India-bound SUV could carry the Boreal name, retain the Bigster badge or arrive with an entirely new moniker when it eventually goes on sale.

Renault unveiled the latest Duster earlier this year and its official pricing will happen soon. Like the five-seater model, the larger seven-seat SUV is expected to use the brand’s modular platform and share several mechanical components. While the overall design will likely resemble the global Bigster, the India-spec version may feature noticeable styling differences as the new Duster already differs significantly from its global counterpart.
The Boreal introduced in Latin American markets features a new 1.3-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine. Depending on the market, the engine is offered in both standard petrol and flex-fuel configurations. In petrol form, it produces around 156 hp while the flex-fuel version can generate up to 163 hp. Torque output varies as well – reaching around 270 Nm in certain markets.

For India, the bigger Duster is expected to share its powertrain lineup. The range could include a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine producing around 163 hp and 280 Nm – paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A smaller 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with around 100 hp may also be offered as an entry-level option while a 1.8-litre strong hybrid petrol mill cannot be ruled out either.
Renault is also planning additional models for India in the coming years. The company recently previewed a smaller SUV through the Bridger Concept. To be slotted below the Duster, it has been confirmed to launch in late 2027 based on the Renault Global Modular Platform.
