Nissan Magnite has scored full five marks this time around in Global NCAP crash tests courtesy of six airbags and ESC being standard
The made-in-India Nissan Magnite has now been awarded a five-star safety rating for adult occupants and three stars for child protection in the latest round of crash tests conducted by Global NCAP. The outcome follows a significant effort from the Japanese carmaker to enhance the safety credentials of the compact SUV beyond its earlier standing.
Over time, Nissan gradually introduced a set of updates to the Magnite’s safety package. The phase of revisions included key additions such as six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC). Following these updates, the model was voluntarily submitted for crash evaluation. The revised Magnite scored four stars in that assessment – a considerable step up from its earlier score.
However, Nissan did not halt the process there. A second phase of safety revisions followed and the company opted for yet another round of voluntary testing. The result of this reworked version was unprecedented: the Magnite became the first vehicle sold in South Africa to earn a five-star adult safety rating under the ongoing Global NCAP testing standards.

The earlier iteration of the Magnite, equipped with only two airbags as standard, had previously scored just two stars each for adult and child occupant protection. By comparison, the current score indicates a major improvement. The change illustrates the pace at which progress can be made when structural safety and occupant protection are given engineering priority.
The most recent version of the SUV, now on sale in India and South Africa, carries several key upgrades as standard. These comprise six airbags, ESC, more robust pedestrian protection, revised occupant restraint systems and three-point seatbelts across all seats. Each of these contributes directly to the improved crashworthiness of the updated Magnite.

The Global NCAP’s assessment framework includes testing for frontal and side impacts as well as evaluations of electronic stability control. To qualify for the highest possible ratings, additional checks such as pedestrian protection and side pole impact resistance are also carried out. The Magnite’s performance under these criteria has now placed it at the top of the current safety benchmark in its segment.
