Maruti Suzuki midsize SUV, likely christened Escudo, will be retailed through Arena dealerships; launch on September 3
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to add new SUVs to its domestic portfolio with launches staggered across the coming months. Leading the charge will be a petrol-powered midsize SUV scheduled for release on September 3, 2025. The new five-seater will slot beneath the Grand Vitara in the company’s lineup. The second product in the pipeline is the brand’s first all-electric passenger vehicle which is expected to follow later in the financial year.
The upcoming SUV will compete in an already competitive space populated by models such as the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio N, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda and VW twins, etc. Although Maruti Suzuki already has a foothold in the segment through the Grand Vitara, the new entrant is expected to push deeper into the market with a focus on higher sales numbers.
In what could signal a clear retail distinction, Maruti Suzuki appears set to sell its upcoming SUV through the Arena network – unlike the Grand Vitara which sits in the more premium Nexa portfolio. The new model is also expected to stretch slightly beyond the Grand Vitara in terms of length and it could become more practical and spacious in comparison.

Recent spy photographs suggest that Maruti Suzuki Escudo leans heavily on styling cues seen on both the Grand Vitara and the yet-to-launch e Vitara. The front fascia carries a boxier presence marked by a flatter nose, sharper headlamp detailing and a reworked grille. The bumper appears redesigned too – likely integrating new fog lamp housings and new air intake.
It will also get new tail lamps, alloy wheels and squared-off wheel arches compared to the Grand Vitara. A centrally mounted touchscreen interface supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is expected to anchor the dashboard layout. Alongside that, the cabin may also benefit from a different instrument cluster, a sunroof and climate control amongst others.

Maruti Suzuki is understood to be aligning the powertrain strategy with that of the Grand Vitara which likely means both the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid petrol engines will be shared. Pricing could range between Rs. 11 lakh and Rs. 16 lakh (ex-showroom). A feature-rich equipment list is also expected to lure in buyers.
