Here we have explained about the 5 upcoming compact SUVs you should know about in India over the next two to three years
Tata Motors is preparing for a wide-ranging revamp of its passenger vehicle range with plans set in place to bring in both updated iterations of existing products and the arrival of all-new models. The roadmap outlines 30 new launches scheduled by the end of this decade. Of these, seven vehicles will wear completely new nameplates.
A large share of the upcoming portfolio is centred around the compact SUV category where Tata is developing four to five new products. These additions are expected to consolidate the brand’s footprint in one of the most competitive and high-volume spaces in the Indian market. Below is a breakdown of what is reportedly on the cards:
1&2. Tata Punch & Punch EV Facelifts:
Camouflaged test vehicles of the petrol-powered model have been seen undergoing road trials indicating that a mid-life revision is in the works. The upcoming update may involve tweaks to exterior detailing and a revised features list. Several equipment upgrades could be carried over from the Punch EV narrowing the specification difference between the two versions.

Tata is expected to continue offering the Punch petrol with the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. The electric version, however, may undergo more notable revisions. The updated Punch EV could borrow several elements from the Nexon EV – particularly on the features front. Alongside those additions, a larger battery and an increase in driving range are likely to be part of its mid-cycle update.
3. Tata Scarlet:
One of the upcoming compact SUVs from Tata is said to draw inspiration from the Sierra’s design language. Internally referred to as the Scarlet, the model could feature a squared-off profile with a tall, upright presence, albeit in a more compact footprint than its larger sibling. Underpinning the Scarlet could be the same platform used by the ICE Curvv.

4&5. Next-Gen Tata Nexon & New Nexon EV:

Tata is preparing the next-generation Nexon under the internal codename ‘Garud’. The updated compact SUV is said to ride on a heavily revised iteration of the existing X1 platform though the changes will not be limited to structural elements alone. A full redesign of the bodywork and interior layout is reportedly underway. New features such as a panoramic sunroof and Level 2 ADAS may also be introduced as part of the overhaul. The Nexon EV is also expected to receive corresponding updates sometime after the ICE variant’s debut.
