Volkswagen Taigun facelift is expected to go on sale early next year with exterior and interior changes; no mechanical changes likely

Not too long ago, Volkswagen India introduced the Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line as full imports. While speculations surrounding a Kylaq derived compact SUV still exist, the brand is developing a mid-cycle update for the Taigun which has been decently received amongst customers. The updated version of the Virtus is also expected to arrive sometime in 2026.

Here we have showed you the first spy images of the updated Volkswagen Taigun as the test mule wore camouflage at the front and rear. The exterior changes, as you might expect, will be subtle as the prototype does not point the finger at any major revisions. The C-shaped LED tail lamps connected by a horizontal light strip, an integrated spoiler with stop lamp, mirrors, roof rails, etc look identical to the existing model.

The test mule could evolve in the coming months before its possible market launch in early or mid 2026. We expect the midsize SUV’s front end to receive revised grille section, updated headlamps and bumper. The side profile as well as overall dimensions will be largely retained while new exterior colour schemes and alloy wheels could spice up the refreshed appeal.

It is worth noting that Skoda is also testing the Kushaq facelift in India. The Taigun was first introduced in September 2021 and is one of the key contributors for the German brand’s monthly volumes. In contrary to the exterior, the cabin will reportedly gain a slew of new updates while new features and technologies such as Level 2 ADAS suite will be added.

The ADAS tech will likely comprise adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert and so on. For the eagle-eyed viewers, the test mule does not feature a panoramic sunroof. The 2026 Taigun will continue with the familiar 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo petrol engines.

The former produces 115 PS and 178 Nm while the latter develops 150 PS and 250 Nm. A six-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter automatic and a seven-speed DSG may stay put while rumours also indicate the debut of an eight-speed AT although at a later stage.
