The Bantam 350 from BSA carries a name that once helped define post-war motorcycling in Britain, and now, it returns in a modernised form in the United Kingdom. Echoing the ethos of the 1948 D1, the new generation Bantam appears to have a lot in common with the Jawa 42 FJ sold in India and it follows the return of the brand in 650 cc form a while ago.
Built around a liquid-cooled, 334 cc, single-cylinder engine, the Bantam 350 pushes out 29 horsepower at 7,750 rpm while the peak torque of 29.62 Nm is delivered at 6,000 rpm. Coupled with a six-speed transmission and chain drive, the engine is designed to offer accessible but engaging performance according to the brand with a compression ratio of 11:1.
The chassis rests on a wheelbase measuring 1,440 mm and uses a conventional telescopic hydraulic front fork with a 135 mm stroke. At the rear, twin shock absorbers offer five-step preload adjustment and allow 100 mm of wheel travel. The riding position is neutral – aided by a manageable seat height of 800 mm and rake angle of 29 degrees. At 185 kilograms, the motorcycle’s weight has been kept moderate.

The BSA Bantam 350 is equipped with an 18-inch front wheel fitted with a 100/90 section tyre while the rear uses a 17-inch setup wrapped in a 150/70 ZR-rated tyre. Both ends support tubeless as well as tube-type configurations. Braking duties are handled by a 320 mm front disc with a floating calliper and a 240 mm rear disc – also with a floating unit – both featuring ABS system.
The fuel tank capacity stands at 13 litres and the Bantam’s simplicity is carried into its aesthetic presence too with minimalistic body panels and a slim profile. Five paint options are available in the UK namely Avalon Grey, Oxford Blue, Firecracker Red, Barrel Black and Victor Yellow. The middleweight machine has been priced from £3,499 in the UK (Rs. 4.08 lakh).

It is yet unknown whether then Scrambler 650 cc motorcycle and the Bantam 350 will be launched in India or not in the near future as BSA currently lineup comprises only the Gold Star 650 domestically.
