Toyota Fortuner will face stiff competition in the 7-seater SUV segment with the arrival of three new models in the coming months
Toyota Fortuner has been the undisputed leader in the full-fledged seven-seater premium SUV segment for the last decade in the Indian market. Having said that, it had formidable rivals in the past in the form of Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero and Jeep Meridian among others. However, it still emerged as the best-selling model despite the strong challenge from the other SUVs. Now, in the coming days, we will see at least three more new 7-seater SUVs launching in India to rival the Toyota Fortuner, which we will talk about in this piece.
1. MG Majestor
MG Motor India will soon launch a new flagship SUV in the form of the Majestor to rival the Toyota Fortuner in India. Being showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, it is expected to be sold via the MG Select premium dealerships. Some media reports suggest that the Majestor is the facelifted version of the Gloster. However, it is clear that even after the launch of MG Majestor, the Gloster will not be discontinued.

Based on the China-spec Maxus D90, it will feature dual 12.3-inch screens for the central infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. The SUV will also come with Level 2 ADAS suite with a host of advanced safety features. At the heart, MG Majestor will have a 2.0L 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel engine which develops top power of 216 bhp and peak torque of 479 Nm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission along with a 4WD system.

Essentially the three-row version of the Tiguan it has been sighted multiple times on the Indian roads during its test runs. VW Tayron could be launched by Oct 2025 in the domestic market as presently the German brand doesn’t have presence in the 7-seater SUV segment.

The Tayron will share most of the styling elements and comfort creatures with the Tiguan. Under the hood, it will boast of a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which we have already seen with the Skoda Kodiaq. This engine is capable of churning out top power of 201 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm while linked to a 7-speed DCT automatic unit. VW could locally assemble the Tayron at its production facility in Aurangabad to keep the pricing aggressive.
