Expected to go into production sometime in the year 2027, the Vision X could be the next compact SUV from Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra recently previewed the Vision X concept at its Freedom NU event. The concept SUV gives a sneak peek into the brand’s upcoming model that will be positioned in the compact SUV segment. This means that the Vision X will likely join the XUV range in its ICE guise, and the EV model could be a part of the XEV line-up. The Vision X is based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ flexible architecture, which means that it can support multiple powertrain options.
To begin with, the Vision X concept appears to be sporting a compact footprint, which means that it will likely measure less than 4 metres long, putting it in the sub-4-meter compact SUV segment. Much like the three other concept SUVs, the Vision X will come with a wheelbase of 2,665 mm. It will give the SUV a clear advantage over the rivals in terms of rear seat space. For reference, the current XUV3XO has the longest wheelbase in the segment at 2,600 mm.
While the technical details of the Vision X concept are under wraps, the NU_IQ monocoque modular platform will enable it to have multiple powertrain configurations, including petrol, diesel, hybrid and all-electric. It will be offered as a front-wheel-drive (FWD) SUV as standard, and the platform is capable of supporting all-wheel-drive (AWD).

We expect the Vision X concept to be launched in both ICE and EV versions, bearing the XUV and XEV nameplates, respectively. However, there are just speculations and nothing can be confirmed as of now. Mahindra could either bring the production-ready version of the Vision X concept as the next-generation XUV3XO, or it could be positioned alongside the XUV3XO as a more premium offering in the sub-4-meter compact SUV segment.
Talking about the design, the Vision X concept takes a modern approach with a compact and upright stance. The overall stance inclines towards the crossover styling with a high ground clearance. Some of the highlights include a dominant front fascia, hefty gloss black body cladding, rugged bumpers, large aero-efficient dual-tone alloy wheels and flush-type door handles.

Inside the cabin, the Vision X concept sports a dual-display setup, working as the instrument cluster and infotainment system. It gets a new two-spoke steering wheel and a three-layer dashboard layout, along with a large centre console.
