As many as five new Tata compact SUVs are expected to launch within the next 2-3 years and here we have explained them

Tata Motors is working on a comprehensive revamp of its passenger vehicle portfolio through generational upgrades and introduction of brand new models. The plan covers the rest of the decade signalling a strong product offensive in both conventional and electric segments. As many as 30 models are lined up for launch as part of this strategy.

Out of these, seven will be entirely new nameplates, emphasising Tata’s intent to diversify its line up with new body styles and segments. Among the confirmed and expected additions are the reborn Sierra, the Avinya range of EVs and the rumoured Scarlet compact SUV. Here we focus on the upcoming sub-four-metre offerings:

1&2. Next-Gen Tata Nexon & New Nexon EV:

Tata is said to be progressing with the development of the third generation Nexon, internally codenamed Garud. The forthcoming model will reportedly utilise an extensively updated iteration of the X1 platform marking a major step forward from the outgoing version and it could help improve the overall comfort and handling characteristics further.

The changes are expected to cover more than just structural upgrades with a comprehensive redesign likely for both the exterior and cabin. The revamp could bring a sharper styling language, a more premium interior and advanced features as well as technologies strengthening the Nexon’s appeal in the competitive compact SUV space.

3&4. Tata Punch & Punch EV Facelifts:

Tata appears to be moving ahead with development of the updated Punch range as camouflaged prototypes of the petrol variant have been seen testing repeatedly in the last few months. The sightings indicate that a mid-cycle update is in progress focusing on design tweaks and feature enhancements.

Many of the changes are expected to be borrowed from the Punch EV which could bring noticeable upgrades in equipment level and technology and it could go on sale before the end of this year. The facelifted version of the Punch EV, one of India’s top-selling passenger EV, is also likely on the cards for 2026.

5. Tata Scarlet:

Tata is reportedly working on a new compact SUV that takes strong inspiration from the upcoming Sierra’s design philosophy. Codenamed Scarlet, the model is expected to adopt a boxy silhouette and upright stance translating the Sierra’s proportions into a more compact footprint. It could take a couple of more years to arrive and could be slotted above the Punch.
