Mahindra NU_IQ platform will enter production from 2027 and it will give rise to a range of compact and midsize SUVs
At the annual showcase on August 15, Mahindra & Mahindra unveiled four new concepts and a new platform called NU_IQ. It is clear that the architecture will spawn multiple models in the future including the production versions of the concepts that were unveiled. While not all four may hit the ground running, the strategy that Mahindra foresees will strengthen its presence in the SUV segment.
The modular architecture is set to underpin Mahindra’s upcoming SUV lineup from 2027 onwards. It has been created to serve both domestic and global markets – offering the flexibility to suit different formats and body styles, and it will handle a wide spectrum of powertrains, ranging from conventional internal combustion units to hybrid systems and fully electric setups.
It also comes with the structural versatility to support front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive applications. Mahindra has further noted that the SUVs will stretch between 3.9 metres and 4.3 metres in length – thus the compact and midsize SUV segments are firmly targetted. The long wheelbase of 2.65 metres should ensure a practical and spacious cabin.

A standout aspect of NU_IQ platform is its flat-form architecture. Mahindra says it makes possible the industry’s first flat-floor SUV with an internal combustion engine. Mahindra has also engineered the platform to incorporate lightweight construction methods which should help improve efficiency and overall dynamics amidst meeting top-tier safety standards.
The NU_IQ platform based SUVs will have ground clearance of up to 227 mm. It also integrates advanced digital and electronic systems dubbed the NU_UX. Mahindra showcased four concept SUVs that sit on the NU_IQ platform. The models have been named Vision.S, Vision.T, Vision.SXT and Vision.X.

The development work was a collaborative effort between Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) located in Banbury. Engineering contributions were provided by Mahindra Research Valley in Tamil Nadu. The Vision.S concept has been positioned as a preview of the next generation Scorpio – providing early insight into the brand’s future approach for its popular SUV nameplate possibly in a smaller footprint.
The Vision.T concept could serve as the basis for a five-door electrified version of the Thar. The Vision.SXT is likely to remain a prototype. It represents a tougher, more utilitarian take on the Vision.T and incorporates a compact load area at the rear for added versatility.
The Vision.X concept is expected to evolve into a compact crossover as it could form the foundation for the next generation XUV 3XO.
