GST 2.0: Hyundai petrol and diesel cars price has been reduced by up to Rs 2.40 lakh while the price of the EVs remains unchanged
Hyundai India has joined the bandwagon of brands like Renault, Toyota and Mahindra by announcing a price cut across its entire model line-up due to GST 2.0 in the domestic market. As the GST 2.0 comes into effect from September 22, Hyundai cars will be cheaper by up to Rs 2.40 lakh in the Indian market as the company has decided to pass on the complete benefit of the lower tax to its customers. The South Korean brand retails a total of 9 models in the country namely Nios, Aura, Exter, i20, Venue, Verna, Creta, Alcazar and Tucson.
Starting with the Grand i10 Nios, the price of the mid-sized hatchback has been reduced by up to Rs 73,808 in the country. Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “We sincerely appreciate the progressive and far-sighted move by the Government of India to reduce GST on passenger vehicles. This reform is not only a boost to the automotive industry but also a strong step towards empowering millions of customers by making personal mobility more affordable and accessible.”

“As India moves forward on the path of Viksit Bharat, Hyundai remains committed to aligning with the nation’s growth ambitions by ensuring our cars and SUVs continue to deliver value, innovation and joy of driving,” added Kim. Under the GST 2.0, which comes into effect from Sep 22, petrol and diesel cars with a length under 4 meters attract 18 percent tax against the previous rates of 29 percent (28 percent GST + 1 percent cess) and 31 percent (28 percent GST + 3 percent cess), respectively.
While the big SUV models have been put into the luxury items slab at 40 percent in GST 2.0, which is still less than the current tax category of 48 percent and hence prices of big and luxury SUVs have also come down. However, the EVs have retained the 5 percent slab in the GST 2.0 and therefore their prices remain unchanged.
