The rumoured Hyundai small SUV will slot between the Inster and Kona and it could be previewed via concept in Munich later this year
Hyundai’s electric roadmap is set to expand again with a new compact SUV currently under wraps. It will reportedly debut as a concept at the Munich Motor Show in a couple of months. Expected to be positioned above the Inster EV in the global lineup, the new electric model may target buyers looking for more space and practicality.
Its proportions could be similar to the i20-based Bayon in Europe and it could be branded as the Ioniq 2 in its fully-electric avatar which has also been speculated. Underneath, the SUV is rumoured to share its architecture with Kia’s EV2 – based on a shortened version of the E-GMP platform as a single-motor layout could be in the pipeline.
The yet-to-be-named SUV may become the first Hyundai to integrate Pleos Connect, the brand’s Android Automotive based infotainment system introduced earlier this year. Replacing the current curved twin screen display seen in many Hyundai models, it is said to feature a large floating touchscreen in the middle.

In short, it could mimic the design popularised by Tesla and various Chinese brands. However, it must be noted that brands are straying away from lack of physical buttons in modern cars as they are not user-friendly. While styling details remain completely undisclosed, Hyundai’s tendency to closely align its production versions with concept forms suggests that the Munich reveal will offer a fairly accurate preview of what is hiding under the curtain.
If the upcoming SUV indeed lands between the Inster and Kona, it would strengthen Hyundai’s foothold in the compact EV space while extending its expansive portfolio that already boasts Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Niro EV, Ioniq 9, etc.

As for India, Hyundai will introduce the third generation Venue later this calendar year while an electric SUV based on the Inster is also under development for 2026. In addition, a new compact SUV derived from the Bayon has been rumoured too. The upcoming Venue and Grand i10 Nios may get their respective electric iterations as well.
