Toyota Highlander EV gets a 77.0 kWh pack and a larger 95.8 kWh battery pack with the claimed driving range going up to 515 km between charges
Toyota has officially reinvented the Highlander for 2027 – replacing traditional combustion power with a fully battery-driven system. The brand’s first electric SUV in the United States to feature three rows of seating has its production take place at Toyota’s Kentucky facility while battery components will be manufactured at its recently established North Carolina plant.
The new Highlander EV rides on a reengineered TNGA-K platform adapted to integrate a large battery beneath the cabin floor. Customers can choose between two energy storage options: a 77.0 kWh pack and a larger 95.8 kWh unit. Depending on configuration, the SUV is projected to travel between 434 km and 515 km on a full charge with the longest range reserved for all-wheel-drive versions fitted with the higher capacity battery.
Performance output varies by drivetrain as well. The front-wheel drive grades deliver 221 horsepower and 268 Nm of torque. All-wheel-drive variants, particularly those equipped with the 95.8 kWh battery, produce up to 338 horsepower and 438 Nm which should help offer brisk acceleration aided by the immediate torque characteristics typical of electric propulsion systems.

The SUV incorporates a North American Charging System (NACS) connector – granting access to an extensive fast-charging infrastructure. When connected to a high speed DC charger, the battery can recharge from low levels to 80 per cent capacity in just half an hour under suitable conditions. Additional technologies such as battery temperature optimization and automatic charger authentication simplify the charging process further.
Inside, the three-row model is configured to accommodate as many as seven passengers. When the rearmost seats are folded into the floor, cargo capacity expands to more than 1,274 litres – upping its practicality. The dashboard comprises a large 14-inch infotainment display alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen. Heated seating surfaces are standard in the front row while ventilation, second-row heating and a panoramic glass roof are available on higher trims.

From a design standpoint, the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV comes with a large greenhouse shaped for improved aerodynamics. It also gets sleek LED lighting signatures, pronounced wheel arches and flush door handles contributing to a streamlined appearance while boasting a wide stance and extended wheelbase. It features the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite fitted across the range and its sales in the US will begin in late 2026.
