Chery Jetour T2 could become the first JSW branded model for India and it could feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain
JSW Group took the first formal steps toward its passenger vehicle debut in India by releasing a teaser of its upcoming SUV just over a week ago and it has also now appeared in domestic design patent filings. The model, based on the Chery Jetour T2, is scheduled for a market introduction around the Diwali 2026 festive timeline.
Manufacturing operations are expected to be planned at the company plant in Maharashtra while dealership sign ups are currently progressing across leading metropolitan regions. In the global markets, the SUV is lifestyle oriented and is packed with technologies and modern features. It gets a large 15.6 inch central touchscreen display.
The unit is complemented by a 10.25 inch fully digital instrument display. The infotainment suite is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset – enabling quick interface response and wireless smartphone connectivity. Premium features could extend to leatherette or suede upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting themes and a 12 speaker Sony audio system.

Built on the Kunlun monocoque platform, the global model measures close to 4.8 metres in length when factoring in the rear mounted spare wheel. It spans over 2 metres in width and rises to nearly 1.9 metres in height with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. Powertrain strategies vary by market requirements.
Overseas versions are equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine producing more than 250 hp and close to 390 Nm of torque. Transmission options include both dual clutch and conventional automatic gearboxes while certain variants feature an intelligent all wheel drive system sourced from BorgWarner.

For India, the emphasis may move toward electrified propulsion. A 1.5 litre plug in hybrid arrangement could take centre stage – offering an electric only range of up to 139 km under the NEDC test cycle giving it a unique identity. From a design perspective, the SUV gains an upright stance with squared proportions. The styling direction was guided by Hakan Saracoglu – known for his previous association with Porsche design projects.
Its off road capability is underscored by 220 mm of ground clearance along with approach and departure angles rated at up to 39 degrees and 30 degrees respectively. In addition, the rear seats can fold flat to expand cargo carrying ability. Boot capacity is projected to range between 400 litres and about 800 litres depending on seating configuration while a suite of ADAS system is also on offer elsewhere.
