Tata Avinya will be underpinned by the EMA platform derived from JLR and it will likely give rise to at least five new models

Tata Motors has officially laid out the next stage for its electric vehicles as it has outlined new product launches, improved localisation and a rapid expansion of its EV ecosystem through the latter half of the decade. The recent announcement follows a major milestone for the company as it crossed 2.5 lakh electric vehicle sales in just five years with the Nexon EV creating history as the first electric car in India to breach the one lakh sales milestone.

The first action will begin in calendar year 2026. Tata has confirmed that the Sierra EV will enter the market in the due course of next year in addition to the facelifted version of the Punch EV. Towards the closing months of CY2026, Tata will unveil the first model in the Avinya range – a born-electric series that will sit at the very top of Tata’s EV hierarchy.

Already previewed through concepts in recent years, the Tata Avinya will be positioned as a more technologically advanced zero-emission range. Looking further into the future, Tata has confirmed that by FY2030 its electric portfolio will include at least five all-new EV nameplates, supported by regular facelifts, feature updates and lifecycle enhancements across existing models.

Internally, Tata is believed to be planning a significant investment programme potentially exceeding USD 1 billion to support this expansion. Under the Avinya banner, multiple models are under evaluation – codenamed P1 through P5. The first of these, P1, is in the advanced stages of development and it could rival the likes of the top-end versions of Mahindra’s born-electric XEV 9e and BE 6.

Subsequent Avinya derivatives could give rise to a wide range of body styles and sizes as midsize SUV around 4.4 metres in length and even a large three-row luxury utility vehicle stretching close to 4.9 metres are said to be considered. Among these, the P4 will be a lifestyle SUV comparable in size to luxury offerings sold globally.

Collectively, Tata is targeting combined Avinya volumes of nearly one lakh units per year by the end of the decade. The first Avinya model will be produced at Tata’s Sanand facility in Gujarat with future models potentially rolling out of a proposed plant in Tamil Nadu. To underpin the premium positioning, Tata has entered into a strategic agreement with Jaguar Land Rover to license the latter’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) which will be localised in India to balance costs with global standards.
