KTM 390 Adventure R boasts 272 mm ground clearance and an 880 mm seat height along with a longer suspension travel

KTM has raised the bar for adventure motorcycling in India with the launch of the global-spec KTM 390 Adventure R at Rs. 3,77,915 (ex-showroom, Delhi) – Rs. 20,000 less expensive than the standard model due to the use of tubed tyres. Powering the motorcycle is the familiar 398.63 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 46 PS at 8,500 rpm and 39 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.

The motor uses an electronic throttle body and is paired with a six-speed constant mesh gearbox along with a wet and multiplate A&S clutch. The 390 Adventure R is built on a split trellis frame with a relaxed 27-degree rake angle. Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm inverted telescopic front fork with open-cartridge design and 30-step damping adjustability – offering a massive 230 mm of wheel travel.

At the rear, a fully adjustable monoshock also provides 230 mm of travel. In comparison, the regular model has 200 mm and 205 mm travel respectively. The new model also gets contrast orange coloured painting on the frame and different body graphics.

True to its rally-inspired intent, the motorcycle runs a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup with tube-type Mita knobby tyres. The front tyre measures 90/90-21 while the rear uses a 140/80-18 section. Braking hardware includes a 320 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc – both working with floating callipers. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard with dedicated Offroad ABS allowing rear-wheel lock for precise control on loose surfaces.

Despite its hardcore off-road focus, the KTM 390 Adventure R maintains a strong on-road presence. Advanced electronics such as Cornering ABS and Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control are available. The Offroad ride mode enables controlled rear-wheel slip while settings are retained even after an engine stall.

Dimensionally, the motorcycle measures 2,238 mm in length, 821 mm in width and 1,490 mm in height with a wheelbase of 1,479 mm. A towering 272 mm ground clearance and an 880 mm seat height are other key proportions with the kerb weight standing at 183 kg.

Rider interface is handled by a 5-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster powered by a 12V inductive ignition system. The display supports KTM Connect – enabling smartphone pairing for calls, music and optional turn-by-turn navigation. A USB Type-C charging port comes fitted as standard.
